Taiwan Southeast Asian Studies Conference in Taichung, Taiwan

In October 2025 Wind&Bones Books co-director Dr Will Buckingham presented at the Taiwan Southeast Asian Studies Conference in Taichung, Taiwan.

Alongside Will were his colleagues from Parami University Dr. Dale Mineshima-Lowe, Phyu Thet Wai and student Myat Moe Kywe. Parami student Khu David Ta Keh was unfortunately unable to attend, but his specially selected paper was tabled at the panel in his absence.

The collective special panel was called, ‘Liberal Arts Education Under Fire’ and focussed on Parami University’s work and the challenges of delivering liberal arts education in regions affected by serious conflict.

Here at Wind&Bones Books, we have a long-standing connection with Myanmar and Parami. In 2017, Wind&Bones Books’ Will Buckingham was on the founding faculty at the Parami Institute, which is now Parami University. Then between 2018 and 2019, Will was back in Myanmar to work on a writing residency with Hannah delivering workshops on writing, ethics and social change.

Since then, we have continued to work with Parami, where Will is now on the full-time faculty and Hannah is visiting faculty. After the 2021 coup where the Mynamar Military overthrew the democratically elected civilian government, Parami University effectively became a university in exile, as well as an integral part of the Open Society University Network, and it now provides education online for students in post-coup Myanmar and beyond.

Both Wind&Bones co-directors Dr Hannah Stevens and Will are so proud to work with the Parami team and students and to support the aims of Parami University in empowering young people and cultivating ethical and creative leaders of the future.
