In June Wind&Bones Books co-directors Hannah and Will headed to Chiang Mai, Thailand for Parami University student graduations and faculty conference.
This graduation was an historic milestone for the university and four years after launching its undergraduate programmes online, Parami celebrated its first-ever cohort of Bachelor of Arts graduates and its third cohort of Associate Degree graduates.
Both Wind&Bones Books co-directors Hannah and Will have a long connection of working with and supporting Parami and students since its early beginnings in 2017 as the Parami Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Yangon, Myanmar. They’ve collaborated as writers in residence, become an integral part of the faculty and helped with the initial licensing process when the university had to switch to being online.
After the military coup in Myanmar in 2021 an in-person, bricks and mortar independent university was no longer possible because of military restrictions. Now all the teaching is done online and so this in-person graduation was therefore extra special.
Parami University is a private not-for-profit online university that aims to empower young people in cultivating positive leadership in the service of humanity and positive civic community engagement. It aims to provide quality education with a focus on academic excellence and promote access to higher education for young people with limited higher education pathways globally.
As well as meeting students and fellow faculty this gathering is also a wonderful opportunity to meet up with some of the Parami staff team who ensure the smooth running of the university and who organise the graduation ceremony. The ceremony itself is a huge feat: organising the venue, logistics, guests, certificates, technology and much, much more besides.
What a day. What a team. And what an amazing achievement for the students, who study and show up to classes in spite of displacement, threats of military violence, bombs, power cuts and much more besides.
