Interview with Radio Taiwan International

In July, Wind&Bones Books co-director Dr Will Buckingham chatted to Oleksandr Shyn at Radio Taiwan International about our book Tâigael: Stories from Taiwanese & Gaelic.

Tâigael is a first-of-its-kind collaborative writing and translation project, bringing together writers from Scotland and Taiwan, to explore language, translation and culture. These four stories by Elissa Hunter-Dorans (Scotland), Kiú-kiong 玖芎 (Taiwan), Lisa MacDonald (Scotland) and Naomi Sím (Taiwan) cross between languages and cultures to speak of things unspoken, and to find new and surprising connections.

Radio Taiwan International (RTI) is the English name and call sign of the Central Broadcasting System (CBS), national broadcaster and international radio service of Taiwan.

It is a public radio station that broadcasts in 14 languages around the world via the internet, shortwave and podcasts.

Listen to Will share how the idea for the book came to life, why the Tâigí stories use two different writing systems, and how only a Taiwanese-sourced font could make the book’s design possible…

Thank you so much to the RTI team and Oleksandr Shyn for making us feel so welcome.
